Notes & Combos

Changed up a few things. I replaced the Imperms with Nib and Droll. For one, I think Imperm doesn't do enough by itself - in a bo1 format I'd rather have more impactful hand traps. And secondly, they are better crossout targets as Imperm doesn't really do much against our monster effects since they pitch for cost. Replaced 1 copy of Minstrel for Diva just to have another pseudo-starter, reducing the chances of bricking. I was on the fence on Chengying but ultimately decided to keep it since it can be pivotal for grindy matchups like Fiendsmith Control and Centurion.

I think this deck is pretty competitive - at least I had an easy time climbing with it (around a 60% wr from diamond to M1). Here are some of what I think its strength and weaknesses are if you're thinking of building this deck.

Pros:

  • It's a combo deck whose effects either pitch for cost or trigger in the GY so it's tricky/hard to interact with hand traps.
  • The usual endboard is very oppressive. It's interactions are layered and accompanied by a flood gate (Dweller or Statue) all while being hard to interact with due to the new link 3. Oh and btw, they start with 2 less cards in their hand!
  • This deck eats half boards alive going 2nd. Both Poseidras allow us to break boards with ease without disrupting our combos.

Cons:

  • The biggest problem I see with this deck is its lack of 1 card starters, which makes it prone to awkward hands.
  • It has major silver bullets in droll, maxx-C and any lingering banishing effects like Shifter, Macro Cosmos and Dimensional Fissure.

Sharing some tips I've learned while piloting this deck.

  1. Try to bait handtraps before you commit to Neptabyss if you can.
  2. Pay attention to how many water monsters you have in your GY. If it's impossible to get it to 5, it might not be worth searching for Moulinglacia.
  3. This deck can usually play through a hand trap or two, try to save your called by for Maxx C/Droll unless you can't extend without it.
  4. Don't be afraid to push against Maxx C going 2nd. This deck has a lot of ways to extend, break boards and put up 8000 or more damage all at once.
  5. Abyssrhine & Poseidra in grave with Neptabyss in your hand can make for a nutty combo on your opponent's turn. At worst it's a bounce and draw. At worst, it's a bounce, draw and pop. Try to end with this set up as much as you can especially if you ended up getting Maxx C'd.

Good deck overall. Probably tier 3 when stacking it up against the rest of the meta.
