Notes & Combos

With Lacrima's release right around the corner, Memento Fiendsmith will gain a decent boost in power level and potentially be the stronger version. I decided to test how this variant would perform against the current Blue-Eyes infested ladder. A few observations during my climb:

  • The Fiendsmith engine felt solid as a handtrap bait starter, and as smooth extension particularly in Angwitch lines when they save their negate for Tatsu
  • Against non-Blue Eyes decks, Fiendsmith added a good amount of push going second and allowed me to break half-boards often, where Engraver alone eats a lot of interruptions by himself
  • ...however, I definitely felt the lack of power spells like Super Poly & Droplet when trying to punish the 80%+ of greedy Blue-Eyes players who insist on going for double Spirit lines. Almost considered maining 3x Nibiru at one point as well.

Non-Engine: Originally I was running 3x Purulia + 3x Fuwalos as a way to force Blue-Eyes and other combo decks to end on only half-boards. In practice, the biggest issue was that smarter Blue-Eyes players would just pass without giving me any draws, and I'd annoyingly still lose to their mix of Majesty + Veilers + Purges. So I settled on Droll + Talents instead as more utility options, and more ways to hedge against Maxx C.

Extra Deck: Very tight for the most part where every card basically came up, where the only flex spots are swapping GChimera / Caesar for Desirae / Verte. Special shoutouts to Eater + Duke for extending past even 2-3 handtraps at times. Duke is also the main reason for keeping a high normal summon count (3x Blade + 3x Witch), which played well in practice.

Overall, while the Super Poly / pure build remains a strong pick, I think Memento FS is an equally compelling option for the upcoming format.
